Control the Lane Drill
| |
Purpose: To learn how to defend offensive low post to high post cuts.
Drill: A coach, manager, or player stands on a wing with a basketball. The defender should begin in correct helpside position, seeing offensive player and basketball. As the offensive player cuts toward the passer, the defender should 'stand' him up (a locked-elbow forearm to the chest). 'Standing him up' just means you are making the offensive player move from his path, instead of easily being allowed to cut straight passed you. It does not mean pushing or hitting!
'Stand him up' and force out higher than he wants to go. Be sure to keep correct ball - you - man defensive principles.
