Trap and Rotate Drill
| |
Purpose: The defensive players will work on jumping the player with the basketball on a double team and learn to rotate the defensive help.
Drill: O1 begins this drill by dribbling away from teammates. As O1 dribbles, X2 leaves the player he is guarding and comes from behind to trap. X1 forces O1 to turn into X2; X2 must either tie up the dribbler or steal the basketball. X1 and X2 avoid giving O1 enough room to get between them. X3 must anticipate O1's attempted pass to O2.
Coaching Points: Coach must emphasize the proper rotations for the defensive personnel for this trap to be successful.
