From the box set, this basketball quick hitter is designed to get a player open in the low post. Obviously, the idea is getting the ball to a good low post scorer … whether that’s a post player or a player who has a scoring advantage against his defender.
O1 can initiate this play to either side, depending on which post player he wants to get open for a scoring attempt.
In our diagram, O1 dribbles to the left. By calling the play and then going left, this alerts O2 to set the diagonal upscreen for O5.
O5 uses the screen and flashes into the low post. O1 passes the ball to O5. O5 looks to score.
Coaching Points: This is a simple play you can execute to get a good low post scorer the ball in the low post. If defended, you can add additional options to get a player open or simply progress into your main offense.
