Overview: The fake-and-go is a play to run at the end of a half or game when you need to go the full length of the court and there is only about 2-4 seconds left on the clock. This play gives several options instead of simply throwing a ‘hail mary’ pass and hoping that it’s caught!
- This play requires you have a player (O4 in this diagram) that can throw the long baseball pass. It also helps to have two good shooters (O2 and O3) and a big (O5) who will set the screen at midcourt.
- When the official hands the ball to O4, O5 moves to the midcourt area and sets a backscreen fo O1, who cuts hard to the basket. O1 could possibly be open for the long pass, however, O5’s defender will probably help out. The main strategy here is to get O5 open for a pass from O4.
- As O1 cuts to the basket, O2 and O3 both sprint into the backcourt, where O4 fakes the pass to them. O2 and O3 will then plant hard and reverse pivot as O4 passes to O5.
- O5 will then use a quick touch pass to either O2 or O3 for the shot.
