Coach Jim Boone nails it with his DVD, Pressure Pack Line Defense! If you want your basketball team to play a tough, hard-nosed, shutdown man-to-man defense, Pressure Pack Line Defense will help you get there.
I give Pressure Pack Line Defense a high recommendation … and I don’t give it lightly. If there is one area of the game I feel most knowledgeable about, it’s man-to-man defense, specifically the Pack Line Defense. The Pack Line Defense (and variations of it) was something ingrained in me from a young age. When I was playing my high school ball in Wisconsin, Dick Bennett was coaching his great teams at UW-Green Bay. With his success, many coaches followed his style of play and teachings. For many, the Pack Defense and Dick Bennett are synonymous. Following college, I also had numerous opportunities to learn the Pack Defense by working UW basketball camps and speaking directly with Coach Bennett. With that said, believe me when I say that Coach Jim Boone nails it!
What I love most about Pressure Pack Line Defense is that it is essentially an all-access pass to a Coach Jim Boone led Tusculum College basketball practice. (Note: Since the release of Pressure Pack Line Defense, Coach Boone has become the head coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College). Many basketball coaching videos tend to be walkthroughs or demonstrations which may help teach the concepts, but you don’t really get to see it in live action. Throughout the DVD, you get to watch Coach Boone teach various drills and then see the players run through them at full speed. With Coach Boone being mic’ed up, you also get to listen to him coach during the drills. He also does a great job giving some commentary throughout so you can gain a better understanding of the drill.
Coach Boone begins by sharing the benefits you will see by playing the Pressure Pack Line Defense as well as giving you the keys to teaching it effectively and efficiently. He also covers all aspects of playing the Pressure Pack Line Defense. These aspects include conversion defense, low post defense, on-ball pressure, help and recover, closeouts, and rebounding. Each aspect is demonstrated through the use of drills performed at full speed. As I mentioned above, I love being able to watch the drills performed for real. You can gain a lot from watching them and from listening to Coach Boone coach during the drills.
The final portion of the DVD includes several team development drills that will further help you teach the Pressure Pack Line Defense. For an example of one of the conversion defense drills, watch the video clip below from Pressure Pack Line Defense:
As you can tell from reading this review, I give Pressure Pack Line Defense by Coach Jim Boone our highest recommendation. If you wish to be a more dominant defensive team or need to learn more about how to teach and coach a tough man-to-man defense, Pressure Pack Line Defense is a necessary addition to your basketball coaching library. If you are simply looking for some great defensive drills or the opportunity to watch a great coach conduct drills at a college level practice, you will also enjoy this DVD and gain valuable knowledge from it.
