Double Screen Flare 3 is a quick hitter designed to get a 3-point shot attempt. It can be used from your halfcourt set or it can be quite effective from your secondary break. Players start as shown. If run out of secondary break, O5 is trailing play while O1 dribbles across midcourt. O1 passes to O2 on the wing and breaks as if cutting to the basket. O3 and O5 slide over to set a doublescreen for O1. O1 cuts back, using the doublescreen to flare to opposite wing. O2 skips the basketball to O1 … [Read more...]

(If you have large numbers or want to utilize time, use more baskets). O1 will attempt to pass the basketball inbounds to O2 before the 5 second call. O2 can utilize any number of … [Read more...]

Principles of an Effective Secondary Fast Break

You probably want your players to go when the break is to your obvious advantage. Well, what do you do when the break isn't … [Read more...]
Trap the Corner Transition Drill

O1 has the basketball and is the inbounder. O2 is in the corner (O2 may also start in his 'normal' press break position before cutting … [Read more...]
How To Effectively Implement and Design Successful Baseline Inbounds Plays
Baseline out-of-bounds situations are very important. Good inbounds plays can win you games. Bad inbounds plays can lose games. At the very least, you need an inbounds play to be effective enough to get the ball back into play. You can, however, often get an easy basket from your inbounds set. I'm guessing the chances are pretty good that you don't spend a lot of quality time on your inbounds plays. Sure, you might spend some time early on teaching the plays but after they have been learned, … [Read more...]

Drill: Have the players line up at the top of the key; the first player in line has the basketball. An offensive player starts on the wing (O2) and a defensive player is guarding him (x2). The drill starts with O2 executing a v-cut to get open. X2 … [Read more...]
Triangle Backpick Play
The Triangle Backpick baseline out-of-bounds play works quite well against a man-to-man defense. From a triangle set, a backpick and roll is utilized to get an easy layup opportunity. The players set up in a triangle set, as shown in the diagram. When the official hands the basketball to O2, O3 cuts to the corner and O5 sets a backpick for O4 and rolls opposite to the basket. O1 slides over to the wing area. Note: O4 can use the backpick and go either way to the basket. O5 will roll opposite … [Read more...]
