This sideline out of bounds play is intended to get a scoring attempt when there are but just a few seconds left on the clock. It will also work quite well against a defense that is up and pressuring/denying. When the official hands the basketball to O3, O4 and O5 flash hard into the backcourt. O2 turns and sets a screen for O1, and then rolls back to the passer. O1 cuts hard to the screener and then goes deep. O3 looks to pass to O1 on the breakout. Coaching Tip: We think of getting a last … [Read more...]

Triple Stack Lob Play
This basketball play is part of our 2015 "12 Plays of Christmas". See all 12 basketball plays here. Triple Stack Lob Play is an excellent play when a lob pass is wanted. This play can be successful against teams who overplay and/or overextend their defense. It can also be a great play to run as a last second option. Many teams shy away from defending hard for fear of fouling ... this lob play will force the issue! Players set up as shown, with three players in a stack along the free … [Read more...]
UAB Baseline Box 3
Here is a really nice baseline out of bounds play from the box set that UAB used to get a late-game 3-pointer. This 3-point shot helped them upset 3rd seed Iowa State in the second round of the 2015 NCAA tournament. Below the diagram and description of this play, watch a video clip of this great play. When the official hands the basketball to O1, O2 moves up to set a screen for O3. O3 dives hard to the low block area. After he rubs past the O3 defender, O2 cuts out to the ballside … [Read more...]
K-Love 3 Last Second Play
This last second sideline out of bounds basketball play was run by the Minnesota Timberwolves in a game against the Los Angeles Clippers on January 20, 2012. Get to Half Court Basketball Plays
The following diagrams are for 2 different plays that can be used at an end of game situation when there are just a few seconds left. If there is enough time left, as well as a time-out available to you, sometimes you will be better served if you can run a play from a sidecourt out of bounds situation rather than having to go the full length of the court. The idea is to pass the ball to the midcourt area and immediately call a time-out. Of course, as you will see, there are also other options … [Read more...]
Full Court Touchdown Play
1) TOUCHDOWN PLAY This play is run from the far end line against a man-to-man defense. It starts with all five offensive players in the back court. This play is especially good when 1's defender guards closely, as well as all defenders. As 1 receives the ball from the official, 2 steps out of bounds. 1 throws the ball cross court (out of bounds) to 2. Then, the middle player near halfcourt, 4, moves forward and screens 1's defender. 1 runs as fast as she can downcourt and receives a long pass … [Read more...]
Full Court Step In Foul Play
O1 takes the ball out of bounds after the opposition has scored. O2 is at the free throw line, O4 is in the backcourt on the inbound passer's right side, O5 is at midcourt, and O3 is away from the play on the inbounders left side. After the score, O1 picks up the ball and steps out of bounds. As he does so, O2 moves up and blindscreens O1's defender on X1's right side. O1 then runs to the right with the ball, attempting to run his defender into O2. If contact is made, O2 attempts to draw the … [Read more...]
Fade Double for ‘3’
Overview: This sidecourt inbounds play is going to be most effective during last second situations such as end of game, half, or quarter. When the inbounds passer (3) receives the ball from the official, player 2 cuts hard towards the ball off of a screen from 1. (If this is so poorly played by the defense, a pass could be made here for a shot -- however, the way the defense generally plays it will open up the 3-pointer in the next movement). After player 2 cuts off the screen, player 1 … [Read more...]
Sidecourt Front Court Wall
This sidecourt inbounds play is used when inbounding in the front court .. it is especially useful in getting that last-second basket. 1) As the play begins, O2 cuts to the backcourt, and the low player, O3, breaks up toward the ball. It is hoped that O3's defender will trail. When this happens, O3 loops around the wall and receives a lob pass from O1. To clear their defenders, O4 and O5 cut to the ball as soon as 3 loops around them. 2) If O3's defender does not trail with, … [Read more...]
