USF Zone Quick Hit

By Jeff Osterman

USF Zone Quick Hit is a simple to execute set play that can be run against any zone defense. With an on-ball screen and a couple of sharp, quick passes, you can create an open shot attempt against the zone. Players set up as shown in the diagram. O1 starts dribbling to either side (in this diagram, he is going left). O4 comes up the lane to set an on-ball screen for O1. O1 uses the screen and starts dribbling the other direction. After setting the screen, O4 steps back to receive a pass from … [Read more...]

'Blue' BLOB

By Jeff Osterman

'Blue' is designed to give a possible quick scoring chance but if defended will continue into a set play once the basketball is inbounded. More than trying to score on the inbounds pass or simply getting the ball in play and resetting your offense, 'Blue' works at continuing the attack once the ball is inbounded. The players line up as shown above. O4 is the inbounds passer; O5 is on the weakside elbow; O1, O2, O3 form a line on the ballside. When the official hands the basketball to O4, O5 … [Read more...]

Top Line Sideline Play

By Jeff Osterman

This sideline out of bounds play can be run as a last second option when there are less then 5 seconds to play in the game and you are down by 3 points. O4 inbounds the basketball from the sideline while the other 4 players set up in a line formation near the top of the key. When the official hands the ball to O4, O2 cuts along the line to the ballside wing while O1 flashes toward the basketball. O4 passes to O1. O1, upon receiving the pass, dribbles hard to the weakside. O4 cuts down … [Read more...]

Deep Corner Box Sideline Play

By Jeff Osterman

Use this sideline box set when you need to inbound the basketball from the deep corner. It allows you to easily get the ball inbounds but also creates a couple of scoring opportunities. The players set up in a box set as shown in the diagram. When the official hands the basketball to O3, O1 and O2 both set a downscreen on their respective sides of the lane. O5 uses the screen by O1 and cuts to the ballside wing. O4 uses the downscreen from O2 and cuts to the top area. O3 passes to O5. He … [Read more...]
