Downscreens Clear vs. Triangle-and-2

By Hoops U.

A simple play you can run when you come up against a triangle-and-2 defense. It creates jump shot opportunities for those players not being defended man-to-man. It is also easy enough to implement in a game even if you have not practiced this play specifically. If your players know how to screen and cut, they can easily jump in and execute this play which might be helpful if you're 'surprised' by a sudden triangle-and-2 thrown on you. Players O2 and O3 are defended man-to-man and start … [Read more...]

High-Low Triangle and 2 Attack Play

By Hoops U.

This play is effective against a team that employs a triangle-and-2 junk defense. It uses a high-low action that allows for either a three-point shot attempt or a pass into the lane. This simple quick hitter can also be used against a 'normal' zone defense with some effectiveness as well. The players set up as shown in the diagram. The two players being defended man-to-man (O2 and O3) set up in each corner. The player in O5's position should also be a threat to shoot from three-point … [Read more...]

2 Low vs. Triangle-and-Two Play

By Hoops U.

Box Screen the Screener

A team that utilizes a Triangle-and-Two defense does so not only to disrupt the offense, but to place pressure on players who are not generally good perimeter shooters. The Triangle-and-Two invites nonshooters to do things outside of their comfort zone while constantly pressuring the good shooters. If the offense stays patient and disciplined, good shots will come. Alignment of 2 Low vs. Triangle-and-Two The defense is set up in a Triangle-and-Two; X3, X4, X5 form the zone triangle while X1 … [Read more...]

4-Out Quick Hitter vs. Box-and-One

By Hoops U.

Purpose: This quick hitter is designed to get an open shot when a team employs a box-and-one against you. It is just another way you can get scoring opportunities versus this 'junk' defense. The opposing team is attempting to shut down your high scorer; which forces other players to step up and score. X2 is assigned to guard O2. The offense begins by attacking the box as O1 passes to O3. O3 returns the pass to O1. O1 reverses to O2 (O2 may need to cut to get open), and O2 passes to O4. After … [Read more...]
