Support A Basketball Guru

By Hoops U.

Basketball GuruDo you know the name Pete Newell? If you’re like me, you probably had heard of his ‘Big Man Camp’ that he ran for many, many years. You may have also heard his name mentioned by other coaches from time to time. It’s even possible that you read a few books by Coach Newell such as Basketball According to Knight and Newell Volume 1 or Basketball According to Knight and Newell Volume 2.

Are you aware, however, that Pete Newell coached the University of California to the 1959 NCAA Championship? Or that he coached the 1960 Olympic team to a gold medal? Or that he had a winning record against John Wooden? Coach Pete Newell was one of the most influential basketball coaches in the history of the game.

Why the brief history of Coach Newell? Well, there is a new documentary currently in post-production titled ‘Basketball Guru: The Pete Newell Story‘. And they need your help!

How can I help, you ask? It’s really quite simple, actually. They have created a Facebook page for Basketball Guru and they simply want you to ‘Like’ it. That’s it … just ‘Like’ the page!

Go now to Basketball Guru on Facebook and ‘Like’ the page. [link opens in new window]

By liking the Basketball Guru page, you will be showing an interest in the Pete Newell documentary. As it is in post-production, they still need to fund the various bills, license fees, etc. If we can get enough ‘likes’, we can show how much we want them to finish the project.

Head on over to Basketball Guru now and help support this wonderful project on a great coach. Learn more about the documentary, watch interview clips with Coach K, Jerry West, Bill Walton, and others, and stay up-to-date with what’s going on.

The documentary is also going to have some great music from Bruce Hornsby as the following video demonstrates…

‘Like’ Basketball Guru now … then share it with other basketball coaching friends on Facebook. Use the links to the left and share this page via Facebook, Twitter, Google+… Spread the word far and wide so we can all learn more about “America’s Basketball Guru”!

What do you think of this upcoming documentary? Do you have any thoughts or stories on Pete Newell? Has Coach Newell helped in your coaching in any way, either personally or through his writings? Share in the comments below!
