3-Step Layup Drill

By Hoops U.

Purpose: This simple layup drill helps a basketball player practice the footwork and technique involved in shooting a layup. An obvious drill youth basketball coaches can use to help teach the layup and the technique it requires. Drill: Begin this drill by standing at the right elbow area of the lane. Start the movement by taking a dribble with the right hand and, at the same time, stepping forward with the left foot. (The step and dribble should occur simultaneously). By Hoops U.

Purpose: Learn to shoot a layup strongly to prevent it from being blocked. Drill: The offensive player will start at the top of the key and the defensive player starts at the foul line extended about one step from the sideline (you can start the offensive player at any spot you desire, wing, corner, etc -- and you can start the defender wherever you desire as well). Block to Block Team Shooting Drill

By Hoops U.

Purpose: To work on short range shots from the low block area. This is also a basketball shooting drill that can be used during pregame warm-ups so the players can warm-up with close range shots and prepare the muscle-memory. Drill: 2 basketballs needed. One player begins on a low block and the other players form 2 lines as shown, ball in the front of each line. O3 begins by passing to O1, who takes the short jump shot. After passing, O3 loops through the lane, receives the pass from O2, then … [Read more...]
