With Father’s Day having come and gone yesterday, I want to wish a Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s … as well as all of you basketball coaches! Even if you don’t have kids of your own, if you coach, you really do have ‘kids’.
Our ultimate role as coaches may not be that of being a dad, however, we are very much father figure’s to many of our players. I should really say ‘parental figures’ … because even though I’m writing this with Father’s Day in mind, it really pertains to all coaches … male and female!
As I was sitting in church during Father’s Day, the pastor and others spent some time talking to the men about leaving a legacy. Even though they were speaking about leaving a legacy as a father, husband, and leader, it got me thinking about the legacy we are leaving as coaches.
As a basketball coach, what legacy are you leaving your players? Whether we want to or not, we are leaving a legacy. It may be good or it may be bad, but we are leaving a legacy.
I have several thoughts and tips for how we can leave a good legacy but instead of making a list, I want us to discuss it in the comments.
How can we, as basketball coaches, leave a positive legacy? Let’s have a conversation and share our thoughts and ideas in the comments below.
