Basketball Player Evaluation Form

By Brian Rea

Use this form to evaluate the players on your team. You will rate various skills and fundamentals which you can then share with your players. This is a great form to use for when you have your mid-season and end-of-season player meetings. Coach Brian Rea from our Basketball Coaches Chalktalk was kind enough to share his Player Evaluation form. It is in a Word .doc format so you can simply change the logo at the top to fit your team. Free Throw Practice Chart

By Brian Rea

This "Free Throw Shooting Chart" is a tally sheet for free throws to be used in the pre-season, off-season, or in-season at practice. It is designed to be reproduced and put in a binder so that players can have it readily available to them at practice. The Free Throw Shooting Chart is in .doc format so you can replace the image and header at the top with your own team name/logo. This chart is further explained in Coach Rea's article, Free Throw Shooting Practice Chart. Free Throw Practice … [Read more...]

Raider High-Low Play

By Brian Rea

This is a play run out of a 3-Out / 2-In set. We run this play to look for a Hi-Lo scoring opportunity or the Ball Screen option with staggered double if the Hi-Lo is not open. Once we have exhausted the scoring possibilities of this set, we are into our 5-Out or 4-Out Motion. "Raider" allows us to get a couple quality scoring looks before we get into our motion. I like the options it gives us, the movement of the defense it provides, and the ability to run a set and flow right into our … [Read more...]

Black-Hawk 5-Out Continuity Offense

By Brian Rea

Black-Hawk is a quick continuity addition to the 5-Out Open Post arsenal. This is a simple continuity that is run from a 5-Out set, but the continuity can be a good supplement to your regular motion. It still holds true to the rules of the motion, but tries to use the point cutter as a brush screener for the wing. It is actually a double-cutter / wheel type action. There are some easy to learn rules that can be applied so that when you have the advantage, as a cutter or receiver, you can use … [Read more...]

4-Out, 1-In Iso Play

By Brian Rea

This is a play to isolate a player from a 4 Out-1 In set. It gets you some misdirection away from the iso-side, a ball screen, and a staggered double. This can be run out of transition or it can be run as a set play at anytime. Our best slasher/scorer runs the trailer spot, so we are able to run it straight from transition without moving people to different spots. 1 passes to 5 and face cuts to the wing. 3 sets a baseline screen for 2 to sprint and clear the right side of the floor. 4 will … [Read more...]

Free Throw Shooting Practice Chart

By Brian Rea

One of the most important, yet under-practiced, aspects of the game of basketball is free throws. We've all seen professionals that can hit from deep or glide to the basket and play above the rim, but what about when they go to the line and clang big free throws...It happens a lot! Many big games, whether ahead or behind, come down to teams that can shoot free throws consistently. Free throws cannot be something that is practiced every-so-often. It also cannot be something practiced in an … [Read more...]

Slash Zone Offense

By Brian Rea

Finding a zone offense that is a "multi-tasker" can be tough, but with our "Slash" and its accompanying quick hitters we have found just that. This zone offense allows us to run our transition spots (4 Out-1 In) and seamlessly get into it when we see a zone look. The best part is that it creates quality movement, puts pressure on the middle, gets players to the short corner, and allows us to overload ANY zone that can be thrown at us. If a simple, yet effective, zone offense that can be … [Read more...]

The Dirty Thirty

By Brian Rea

Here is our version of the Dirty 30 and what we call Fundo's. These programs are designed for the first two weeks of the season at our morning practice sessions. We will meet from 6:45-7:45am daily and take an hour of time to hit key areas of player conditioning and fundamental development. This is what I have come up with to do just that. It has worked for us in the past, but can be tweaked to suit your specific needs. Enjoy! The Dirty Thirty ~ 30 Minutes of All-Out Effort ~ (Times are given … [Read more...]
