Two Low Continuity Offense

By Hoops U.

Run 'Two Low' as a continuity offense or run it through as a simple quick hitter. Either way, you'll find excellent scoring opportunities for your low post players. Two Low Continuity is a basketball offense that enables two post players to work together to create scoring opportunities using screens. If you have two post players that are effective in the low post and high post, this is a great basketball set to run as either a continuity offense or quick hitter. This offense also allows … [Read more...]

Double Down Backscreen Lob Play

By Hoops U.

From a 1-4 high set, this basketball play gives you an opportunity to throw a lob over the top of the defense for an easy basket ... slam dunk or layup! Players set up in 1-4 high set. O1 brings the ball across midcourt and starts dribbling to his left. At the same time, O2 and O5 dive down to set a double screen for O3 who is cutting from the weakside to the ballside wing. O1 makes the pass to O3. As O3 is receiving the pass, O4 takes a few steps into the lane and then sets a backscreen … [Read more...]

Triple Double Sideline Play

By Hoops U.

The Triple Double Sideline out of bounds play can be useful when you want a jump shot from the inbounds play. It also has the potential to be a possible last second play for you because it opens up for a quick catch and shoot. The decoy triple screen into using a double screen often creates an open mid-range jumper as well. When the official hands the basketball to O3, O1 starts up toward the triple screen and then cuts hard to the corner. O2, O4, and O5 should be taking a few steps down … [Read more...]

Double Overload Zone Offense

By Hoops U.

The Double Overload Zone Offense can be run as a continuity zone offense or a quick-hitting set. As the name indicates, it overloads one side of the zone defense to create multiple easy scoring chances. While it can be run against any zone defense, it is probably most effective against the 2-3 zone defense. The Double Overload can be run to either side with O2 and O3 high on the wing. In our diagram, O1 starts the play by passing to O3 high on the right wing. O1 cuts to the elbow and … [Read more...]

Full Court Double X Play

By Hoops U.

In the event you need to get a quick score while taking the basketball out of bounds from your backcourt baseline, "Double X" is a nice play to get the ball inbounds. It should give a player the chance to get open to receive the pass. If you run this with at :03 seconds on the clock, you'll also give that player time to make a quick move and/or pass to create a solid scoring opportunity. O3 takes the ball out of bounds. O4 and O5 start on the free throw line and O1 and O2 start on the low … [Read more...]

An Athletic Code of Ethics

By Hoops U.

This Athletic Code of Ethics appeared in the May, 1922 edition of The Athletic Journal. The Athletic Journal began in 1921 and deemed themselves "A Professional Magazine for Coaches of the Country". It is quite interesting to read the code with the different use of language and some dated terminologies, however, it is a very relevant code for your athlete's and basketball players today. An Athletic Code of Ethics As an athlete I am determined: To play the game to the limit of my … [Read more...]
