Prescott Triple Options Play

By Michael Lang

This basketball play makes use of multiple screens to create at least three scoring opportunities. From a low block dive to a lob to a 3-point attempt, your scoring options are covered with this quick hitter! O1 makes the wing entry pass to O4. O3 moves across the lane to set a screen for O5 who dives to ballside low block. O4 makes the pass if available. As O3 is setting the cross screen, O2 walks up to screen O3's defender. After O5 clears, O3 uses the screen and cuts to weakside block … [Read more...]

Butler 1-4 Dive Play

By Michael Lang

This 1-4 basketball play is simple to execute and creates a good scoring chance from either the low block area or the top of the key. Though simple to run, it does a nice job of forcing defenders to get through screens and making quick help decisions. From the 1-4 high formation, O1 dribbles to the right wing replacing O2. O2 cuts into the lane to set a screen for O5 who dives to the ballside low block. O1 makes the pass to O5 if available. As soon as O5 cuts past the screen, O4 turns … [Read more...]

Kenya Box Play

By Michael Lang

From the box set formation, this basketball play is designed to get the ball into the low post for a scoring opportunity. With the use of cuts and screens, other options are also available. O4 sets a downscreen for O3 as O2 cuts through to the corner. O1 passes to O3 on the wing. O4, after setting the downscreen seals his defender and posts up. O3 looks to pass to O4 in the low post. Option: After O1 passes to the wing, O5 can step up to the top of the key area. O1 can read if O4 will … [Read more...]

Two Low Continuity Offense

By Hoops U.

Run 'Two Low' as a continuity offense or run it through as a simple quick hitter. Either way, you'll find excellent scoring opportunities for your low post players. Two Low Continuity is a basketball offense that enables two post players to work together to create scoring opportunities using screens. If you have two post players that are effective in the low post and high post, this is a great basketball set to run as either a continuity offense or quick hitter. This offense also allows … [Read more...]

Dribble-Drive Weak Flash Play

By Hoops U.

This basketball play utilizes inside screening to create a great shot opportunity against a 2-3 zone defense. Players O4 and O5 set up below the low block and/or behind the defender. This play can be run to either side, just as long as the players know what to do depending on where the point guard initiates the pass. For our example, we are running this to the right side of the floor. O1 passes the basketball to O2. O2 drives baseline in an attempt to draw the baseline defender to … [Read more...]

Power Post Options Play

By Hoops U.

The Power Post Options basketball play is designed to get the ball into the low post area for an easy score. With the ball movement, cuts, and screens, this play offers 3-4 options for getting the ball to a player in the low post. When you need to get your power game going, this is an excellent play! O1 begins by dribbling to the right wing. As O1 is going right, O4 moves up to the free throw / key area to set a screen for O3. O3 walks toward the top and then cuts hard off O4's … [Read more...]

Box Low Post Entry Play

By Jeff Osterman

This quick hitting basketball play begins in a box set formation and is designed to get the ball into the low post against a zone defense (could potentially be run against a man-to-man defense as well). This is a nice play you can run to specifically get your post player the ball in a position to score. It's also effective at getting the basketball inside against a zone defense. Once the ball penetrates the lane against a zone, it's tough to defend. O1 dribbles the wing as O2 cuts … [Read more...]

Box Corner Set Play

By Jeff Osterman

This box set play overloads one side of the court to give scoring options from the perimeter and from the low block. O1 dribbles the basketball to the right side wing area. O2 cuts around O5 and past O4 to the ballside corner. O4 sets a downscreen for O5 who cuts to the top. O4 then uses the screen from O3 to cut to ballside block. O1 can initially look for O2 in the corner. If that is unavailable, O1 will look to pass to O5 at the top or O4 on the low block. If O2 and O5 receive … [Read more...]

Backscreen Quick Flash Post-Up Play

By Hoops U.

This play is designed to get a quick low post scoring option. Simple enough to run at all levels, this quick post-up set can be an easy way to take advantage of a possible mismatch. If you have a player who can score in the low post and he is being guarded by a weak defender, this play can get him open for a nice scoring opportunity. The play can be run to either side, especially if both of your wing players are capable in the low post. When this play is called, the side is determined by … [Read more...]

Free the Post Play

By Hoops U.

This set play is designed to free your post player in the low post. The use of a backscreen gets him open so he can create his own scoring chance from the low post area. To set up, your best low post player begins at the free throw line (in this diagram, it's player 4). 1 has the ball at the top, 3 begins on the low post while 2 and 5 stand on the weakside ready to react as needed and 5 ready to crash the boards for an offensive rebound. The play begins with 1 dribbling to the wing on 3's … [Read more...]
