By Jeff Osterman

Fairfield Doublestack to Pick-and-Roll Play

By Jeff Osterman

This quick hitting basketball play starts in a low doublestack set with the first look for a corner jumper that moves into a high pick-and-roll from the top. The players start in a doublestack formation at the low block area. As the point guard dribbles to his right, O3 runs his defender into a doublescreen from O2 and O5. O1 looks to O3 in the corner, if open. As soon as O3 has cleared the screen, O2 breaks hard to the top of the key. If O3 was not open in the corner, O1 reverses … [Read more...]

Ithica Line Quick Hitter

By Jeff Osterman

This is a nice and simple quick hitter that uses a bit of misdirection and screening to create an isolation opportunity at the top for a player who can penetrate and finish. This play can be run to either side but for this diagram O2 is on the right and the line of O3, O4, and O5 are on the left. O1 starts dribbling to his left as O2 cuts to the ballside corner. Just as O2 cuts past, O3 breaks hard to the top to receive the pass from O1. O3 is now in position to attack the basket … [Read more...]

Northern Iowa Dribble Entry Reversal

By Jeff Osterman

This quick hitter gives inside-outside scoring options and attacks the defense with the dribble, an on-ball screen, and a variety of cuts. Players set up as shown. The point guard, O1, dribble entries left as O3 cuts backdoor and then out to wing. O4 cuts down to low block and posts up. If nothing materialized in the previous action (mainly the backdoor cut), O1 will then pass to O3 on the wing. O3 should look inside to O4 posting up. O1 makes a v-cut and receives the return pass … [Read more...]

By Jeff Osterman

This box set play overloads one side of the court to give scoring options from the perimeter and from the low block. O1 dribbles the basketball to the right side wing area. O2 cuts around O5 and past O4 to the ballside corner. O4 sets a downscreen for O5 who cuts to the top. O4 then uses the screen from O3 to cut to ballside block. O1 can initially look for O2 in the corner. If that is unavailable, O1 will look to pass to O5 at the top or O4 on the low block. If O2 and O5 receive … [Read more...]

Utah Valley Sideline Play

By Jeff Osterman

This sideline out of bounds play cycles through several options that can create the potential for a penetration move, a three-pointer, or a backdoor layup.
