By Wes Kosel

Here are 3 different basketball plays run by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Each of these plays are from a 'Flex Offense' set and incorporate additional options such as a pick-and-roll, post isolation, penetration, etc... If you run flex actions or simply want a good play or 3 to use in your system, check these out! Thunder Flex Play 1 passes to 5 who passes to 3 cutting to the wing. Once 3 has the ball, 4 sets a flex screen for 2. 2 cuts to the opposite low post looking for the pass … [Read more...]

2-3 Flex Action Curl

By Wes Kosel

This is the first in a series of 4 flex action plays from Coach Fred Hoiberg when he was at Iowa State. See the other Flex Action plays here: 2-3 Flex Action Staggered Downscreen Option In this flex set quick hitter, the ideal look is getting an open look inside the lane via a curl cut. Flex to Staggered Screen Play

By Hoops U.

The Flex to Staggered Screen basketball play is designed as a quick hitter from your flex set to create an opportunity for your shooting guard. As you run the flex a few times, O3's defender will start concentrating on defending the backscreen and flex cut across the lane. This play sets him up to be picked off by the staggered screen going the opposite direction. Find more Flex Actions in The Members playbook. You can also learn more about the Basic Flex Offense here at Hoops U. The … [Read more...]

Boston BLOB Play Series

By John Carrier

This is a series of inbounds plays out of a ball side elbow stack and backside flat look. I call it “Boston” because one of the sets came from watching the Celtics and another came from watching Boston College. It just made sense! The first three sets we ran this year at the B-Squad (Sophomore) level with success. The others are sets that I came up with and would run in the future. I think it's important to have a few sets out of the same look because it allows you to hide what you are trying … [Read more...]

Colgate Flex Flare Sideline Play

By Jeff Osterman

This sideline out of bounds play starts in a box set formation and uses both a flex cut and flare cut option to create a scoring opportunity. O2 takes the basketball out of bounds while the other four teammates set up in a box formation around the lane. O5 sets a downscreen for O1 and O2 passes inbounds to O1. Just as O1 is breaking open, O4 sets a downscreen for O3. O1 reverses the basketball to O3. As O3 receives the pass, O5 steps back out and sets a flex screen for O2. O5 … [Read more...]

Flex Point Lob Play

By Hoops U.

This quick hitter, from former Miami (Ohio) coach Charlies Coles, goes well within a flex offense but it can be run no matter type of offense you employ. A fine play from a great coach. RIP Coach Coles. O1 dribbles to either side (in our diagram, he goes right). O1 then passes to O4 who has cut from low block to elbow / top area. As in a normal flex offense, on the pass to O4, O2 makes a flex cut to the opposite low block. With this play, however, instead of O1 screening down for O5, … [Read more...]

Eastern Illinois

By Jeff Osterman

This quick hitter is a scoring set that creates opportunities by utilizing an on-ball screen, flex screen, and downscreen. The multiple screens and cuts makes this difficult to defend. As you will see, there are also multiple opportunities throughout the play to get a good shot attempt. The players start as shown in the above diagram. O4 sets a downscreen for O3 and then slides out to the wing. O3 looks to receive the pass from O1 at the top. O5 sets a backscreen for O1 who cuts through to … [Read more...]
