Upsala

By Jeff Osterman

This quick hitting basketball play has a variety of options throughout the entire sequence. Out of the low double stack set, you can create scoring options from a back cut, staggered screen, penetration and more! From the low stack set, O2 & O3 pop out. O1 passes to O3. O1 passes to O3 and cuts to the ballside corner. O5 flashes elbow and then pops out to the top. O3 reverses the ball to O5 at the top. O5 then reverses the basketball to O2 as O3 comes off a diagonal back … [Read more...]

Akron Back Flare Play

By Jeff Osterman

This quick hitter includes a back screen and flare screen to get an open scoring opportunity. O1 swings the ball over to O4. On the pass, O5 sets a back screen for O3 who cuts to the low block. If open, O4 will pass the basketball to O3. O5 follows his back screen by stepping up to set a flare screen. O1 sets up his defender and uses the flare screen to receive a pass from O4. You can also include O2 setting a down screen for O3, which will potentially give another scoring option on … [Read more...]

Raider High-Low Play

By Brian Rea

This is a play run out of a 3-Out / 2-In set. We run this play to look for a Hi-Lo scoring opportunity or the Ball Screen option with staggered double if the Hi-Lo is not open. Once we have exhausted the scoring possibilities of this set, we are into our 5-Out or 4-Out Motion. "Raider" allows us to get a couple quality scoring looks before we get into our motion. I like the options it gives us, the movement of the defense it provides, and the ability to run a set and flow right into our … [Read more...]

High Pivot Flash Doublescreen Handoff

By Hoops U.

This quick hitting basketball play is designed to get your best shooter or scorer an opportunity for a 3-point attempt or a dribble-drive to the basket. Players are in a 2-3 offensive set as shown in the diagram. O5 starts in a low post position, opposite the basketball. O5 flashes to the high pivot, O1 passes to him and follows his pass, setting a double-screen at the foul line with O5 at the side to which he passed. As O1 makes the pass, O4 clears to the opposite side, thereby … [Read more...]

Fairfield Doublestack to Pick-and-Roll Play

By Jeff Osterman

This quick hitting basketball play starts in a low doublestack set with the first look for a corner jumper that moves into a high pick-and-roll from the top. The players start in a doublestack formation at the low block area. As the point guard dribbles to his right, O3 runs his defender into a doublescreen from O2 and O5. O1 looks to O3 in the corner, if open. As soon as O3 has cleared the screen, O2 breaks hard to the top of the key. If O3 was not open in the corner, O1 reverses … [Read more...]

Ithica Line Quick Hitter

By Jeff Osterman

This is a nice and simple quick hitter that uses a bit of misdirection and screening to create an isolation opportunity at the top for a player who can penetrate and finish. This play can be run to either side but for this diagram O2 is on the right and the line of O3, O4, and O5 are on the left. O1 starts dribbling to his left as O2 cuts to the ballside corner. Just as O2 cuts past, O3 breaks hard to the top to receive the pass from O1. O3 is now in position to attack the basket … [Read more...]

4-Out Double Flare for 3

By Hoops U.

From a 4-out, 1-in set, the goal of this play is to get a quick three-point shot or to make sure the ball gets in the hands of your best shooter. The play begins with O1 passing to O3 on the wing and then cutting through to the opposite corner. O2 cuts and fills the spot vacated by O1. (Note, O2 may need to v-cut to get open). O3 passes to O2. O4 rotates to fill O2's vacated spot. O2 then passes to O4 as O3 and O5 set a double screen for on the wing for O2. O2 cuts off the … [Read more...]

Northern Iowa Dribble Entry Reversal

By Jeff Osterman

This quick hitter gives inside-outside scoring options and attacks the defense with the dribble, an on-ball screen, and a variety of cuts. Players set up as shown. The point guard, O1, dribble entries left as O3 cuts backdoor and then out to wing. O4 cuts down to low block and posts up. If nothing materialized in the previous action (mainly the backdoor cut), O1 will then pass to O3 on the wing. O3 should look inside to O4 posting up. O1 makes a v-cut and receives the return pass … [Read more...]

Panathinaikos Curl Pick-and-Roll Play

By Steve Hardin

This pick-and-roll basketball play from the Athens-based Panathinaikos Basketball Club incorporates cutting movements to engage the defense while opening space to allow multiple options off the pick-and-roll. O1 passes to O2 and cuts through to opposite corner. O3 curls around O4 & O5 to ballside corner. O2 can hit O3 on the cut, if open. As O3 has cleared the painted area, O5 follows to set the pick-and-roll with O2. O2 uses the pick-and-roll to attack the middle for his own … [Read more...]
