Ball Screen Double Screen Behind

By Jeff Osterman

A real nice box set play here that utilizes an on-ball screen followed by a double screen behind the play. This one creates a possible layup opportunity or an open 3-point attempt. 2 cuts over 4 and 5. 1 drives off 4's on-ball screen. 1 has option to take it to rim or throw back to 2 coming off the double screen behind.   … [Read more...]

Big Up Double for 3 Play

By Jeff Osterman

This basketball play has a lot of movement and screening action with the ultimate objective being a 3-point attempt from the top. The play begins with a wing entry pass from O1 to O4. O3 cuts to the ballside corner and O5 sets a backscreen for O1. If open, O4 can make the pass to O1. If not open, O1 will cut back out to the weak side wing. O4 reverses the basketball to O5 who then reverses it to O1. O4 and O5 move down to set a double screen for O2. O2 uses the double screen and … [Read more...]

High Pivot Flash Doublescreen Handoff

By Hoops U.

This quick hitting basketball play is designed to get your best shooter or scorer an opportunity for a 3-point attempt or a dribble-drive to the basket. Players are in a 2-3 offensive set as shown in the diagram. O5 starts in a low post position, opposite the basketball. O5 flashes to the high pivot, O1 passes to him and follows his pass, setting a double-screen at the foul line with O5 at the side to which he passed. As O1 makes the pass, O4 clears to the opposite side, thereby … [Read more...]

Down Screen the Cross Screener

By Hoops U.

This quick hitter, utilizing a screen-the-screener action, is designed to get an open shot at the free throw line / top of key area for one of your better shooters. The offensive players begin as shown in the diagram. 1 dribbles to the side of 2 where the wing area is open. (This play can also easily be run to both sides ... simply dribble opposite of the wing player). As 1 starts dribbling right, 2 sets a cross screen for 5 while 4 simultaneously comes down the lane to set a down screen for … [Read more...]

Drive Staggered for 3-Point Shot

By Hoops U.

The Drive Staggered for 3-Point Shot is designed to get your best shooter an open 3-point shot attempt. By utilizing a dribble-drive and kick out pass to the shooter coming off of a staggered double screen, the chances are good you will get an open 3-point shot. 1 passes to 3 on the wing while 2 runs up from the low post and screens for 4 cutting to the basket on the weakside. 3 dribbles hard to the corner to draw the defense. As 3 dribbles, 1 and 5 set a staggered double screen for 2 who … [Read more...]

Baseline Cross with Double Downscreen Play

By Hoops U.

This is great play for getting the basketball into the low post or for creating an open jump shot opportunity for a shooter. The play starts with 1 dribbling to the wing as 2 sets a cross screen for 3. After setting the cross screen, 2 uses a double screen being set by 4 and 5. 1 can pass to 3 in the low post after the initial cross screen. If 3 is not available, he will look to pass to 2 at the free throw line / top of key area for a jump shot.   … [Read more...]
