Irish Sideline Play

By Michael Lang

This sideline out of bounds play is designed to get an easy basket when one is needed at the end of a game. In this setup, the defense will need to be giving some pressure and not 'packing' it in inside the three-point area. When the official hands the basketball to O3, O4, O2, and O1 cut away from their basket into the backcourt. O5 posts up on the ballside low block. O3 passes to O5 and then cuts right to the front of the rim. O5 passes to O3 for the layup. NOTE: If the defense does not … [Read more...]

Top Line Sideline Play

By Jeff Osterman

This sideline out of bounds play can be run as a last second option when there are less then 5 seconds to play in the game and you are down by 3 points. O4 inbounds the basketball from the sideline while the other 4 players set up in a line formation near the top of the key. When the official hands the ball to O4, O2 cuts along the line to the ballside wing while O1 flashes toward the basketball. O4 passes to O1. O1, upon receiving the pass, dribbles hard to the weakside. O4 cuts down … [Read more...]

Backcourt Sideline Advantage Play

By Hoops U.

3 Quick Hitters vs. a Triangle and Two

The Sideline Advantage Play is an out of bounds play that can be used when inbounding the basketball from the defensive sideline when there are mere seconds left in the game. It is most effective when the defense is playing man-to-man defense with some pressure. Assuming the opposing team is ahead (or even tied) with about 4-10 seconds left, they will probably apply light pressure so the ball cannot be advanced quickly. This play hopes to use the pressure so we can a numbers advantage on the … [Read more...]

Double Screen Clear Out Sideline Play

By Hoops U.

Double Screen Clear Out is an inbounds play run from the defensive sideline. It can be used in the last few seconds of a quarter, half, or game when a score is needed. Depending on the amount of time left, it is helpful to inbound the basketball as far up the court as possible and advanced quickly so that time isn't wasted having to dribble the full length. In setting up the play, 1 should be your best one-on-one guard. He also must be able to get open without the help from a teammate. The … [Read more...]

Sideline Misdirection Play

By Hoops U.

This misdirection play is a sideline out of bounds play designed to produce a jump shot from the short corner and it can be run against either man or zone defenses. It can also be run at end of half or end of game situations but you will need at least :05 seconds on the clock. The players are set up in a box formation with the guards, O2 and O3 positioned out on the floor. O4 and O5 set up on opposite low blocks. The inbounder, O1, should be a good passer as well as being comfortable handling … [Read more...]

3/4 Court Two Long Play

By Hoops U.

This sideline play is designed for those times you take the ball out on the sideline in the backcourt but want or need a quick score. It can be run at any time as you might try to score quickly from this play. It is also a useful last second play if you're ever in the position of needing a basket from a backcourt side out of bounds. When the official hands the ball to O3, O5 fakes to the ball and then goes long. At the same time, O2 screens down for O4 and then across for O1. O4 cuts long and … [Read more...]

Basket Cut Options Sideline Play

By Hoops U.

This sideline out of bounds play is designed as a last-second scoring play when there are about 5 seconds left in the game. A quick shot may be possible with this play, but an open shot is usually attained after a second pass / cut. When the official hands the ball to O1, O5 sets a screen for O2, who cuts toward the weak side elbow. O3 sets a diagonal downscreen for O4, who cuts to the ball side elbow. O3 pops out to the ball side corner after screening and O5 gets open in the backcourt in … [Read more...]
