Preseason Basketball Shooting Workout

By Zach Keene

Use this basketball shooting workout as a preseason workout for your players. It can even be used in the early season or during the season when you want to get in a good shooting session. Players can certainly perform this workout individually but if you have gym time and space available have all your players get involved. You can set it up in your before or after school training sessions ... just put 20:00 minutes on the clock and have your players get after it. Here it is... Preseason … [Read more...]

11 Press Defense

By Zach Keene

The "11" Defense has the same base principles as both the Double Fist Havoc Press and our Diamond press. The only difference is how we align our top two people. The two guards in this instance are stacked vs. playing side by side. We will still use our quarter system along with our "Taker", "Reader", and "Teaser" system with all players off the ball. With this defense we really are allowing the offense to relax a little and not see all the pressure at once. We are wanting the ball to be … [Read more...]

Double Fist Havoc Press Defense

By Zach Keene

Philosophy of the Double Fist Havoc Press Defense: “Pressure, Pressure, Pressure” We want to keep pressure on the opponent on both offense and defense What are we Trying to Get Out of the Press: Turnovers (Live Ball Turnovers) Quick / Bad Shots From Our Opponents Create More Offensive Opportunities Force Tempo / Disrupt Offensive Flow Difficult To Prepare For Make Opposing Players Do Things They Aren't Comfortable Doing Create Fatigue (Overall Cumulative … [Read more...]

Dribble Play (1 Finger Down)

By Zach Keene

This play works great directly out of your secondary break. It's a quick hitter that can be run anytime, but executes quite well out of your transition offense. We will look to run this directly out of our secondary fast break. It can be initiated by either calling it out, pointing to the spot where the point guard wants the screen to be set (1 finger down) or by simply dribbling directly at the 4. 4 will come over and set a pick for 1 equal to where the lane begins. 1 will look to turn the … [Read more...]

Bomber Secondary Fast Break Offense

By Zach Keene

Our 'Bomber Secondary Fast Break Offense' looks to attack and score with several options leading to inside or mid-range scoring opportunities. Wings make sure to run wide. Post players run opposite of ball then break to ball side block and post up hard. Our first look is always to the post. If the post is not open we can either reverse the ball back to the 1 and they enter the ball to the post, look to drive, or continue to pass the ball to the 4. Or 2 may decide to just throw a skip pass … [Read more...]

Tap the Head Basketball Play

By Zach Keene

This set play starts with a dribble hand-off and an on-ball screen to create misdirection and dribble-drive opportunity. Executed well, it allows for penetration right down the lane. In this set we are looking for (1) to drive the ball towards (2) on the right wing. As (1) is driving (2) will look to come "over the top" and receive a dribble hand off from (1). Meanwhile (5) is looking to step out above the 3-point line to set a screen for (2) who is coming right back around to the left … [Read more...]
